Benefits of using Bars

Shampoo bars are beginning to gain a lot of popularity around the world, particularly in the USA & UK, and for good reason. They are PACKED with benefits and require very little sacrifice or compromise.  Our shampoo bars help strip the chemicals from your hair bringing it to its natural, voluminous state. Our conditioner bars moisturize and nourish hair with ingredients like cocoa butter and coconut oil. But you don't have to believe us; here's the information you need to know

In 2017 Forbes reported that “We're Now At A Million Plastic Bottles Per Minute - 91% not recycled”. That’s right – 91% of bottles are NOT recycled. That means it ends up in our oceans, on our beaches and killing marine life (which will eventually kill us). That’s almost 50 BILLION plastic bottles a year. This is definitely the number one reason to make the switch to shampoo and conditioner bars. Bars and soaps, in general, don’t require plastic packaging, so every plastic bottle we can keep out of the ocean the better. As more people convert, more and more bottles will be diverted from landfills and our waterways. It’s a no-brainer. But it won’t happen unless we each make a difference.

Our natural shampoo bars last anywhere from 20 to 60+ washes depending on hair length — and it gets your hair all sudsy with just a few swipes through your hair, as opposed to a big squirt of liquid shampoo. The bars are more concentrated than traditional shampoos and conditioners, so you can use less per application – lasting even longer! Not sure how to use your bar? It's easy! Check out our HOW TO USE section.

Recently, we’ve been seeing SLS-FREE labels on natural beauty products and for good reason. What is SLS and why is it bad? Both SLS and coco sulfate (SCS) are derived from coconut, yet Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is lab altered, removing some of its fatty acid chains and lowering ph so it strips oils at lower concentrations. This harsh version is made primarily for floor cleaners and detergents, due to its effectiveness at stripping and removing oils. Because SLS is a lower price, it has found its way into 98% of shampoos (and personal care items) so companies can save money. When applied to your head, it will also strip your skin of vital oils, causing itchiness, allergic reactions and overall poor scalp conditions. You need globs of conditioner to remedy this. Oil stripping from SLS also accelerates hair loss and breakage from hair that is weaker and more brittle. Unfortunately, SLS can be found in most shampoos and shampoo bars on the market including LUSH bars. See here for reference at LUSH's own website.  We use SCS in our bars. Why? The short answer is that our coco sulfate shampoo bars are gentler on your hair and skin than SLS. Sodium Coco is often diluted and used for baby shampoos. Our shampoo bars give you the richest lather possible but unlike regular liquid shampoo, it isn’t applied directly to the head/scalp (rather the lather created is washed in the hair). All of this makes it safer than SLS and great for those with irritations, hair breakage, permed and colour treated hair.  Our handmade bars contain:
· No Parabens
· No harsh SLS/SLES
· No Formaldehyde
· No Propylene Glycol
· No Harsh Detergents
· No Silicones
· No Phthalates
· No Sodium Chloride
Our bars currently use a combination of fragrances and essential oils. Please read the ingredient list if you have sensitive skin or allergies.

No more running around looking for travel sized versions of your favourite hair care products (it's been fun...not!). Shampoo bars and conditioner bars are great to travel with for a number of reasons. Firstly, you don't have to worry about any potential spillage or those liquid restrictions. YAY! Secondly, the bars are small and lightweight making it perfect for those frequent lam jet setters.
